Joseph of Arimathea

We continued our study of the last week of Christ before His resurrection.  Yesterday, we talked about what transpired on Friday…the Passover meal, the betrayal, the trials, the crucifixion and the burial before the Sabbath.

Jesus was placed in the tomb before 6:00pm on Friday.  Why?  Sabbath begins on Friday 6:00pm and no work can be done.  This is the Fourth Commandment.  Deuteronomy 5:12-15, “Observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy, as the Lord your God has commanded you.  Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord you God.  On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your ox, your donkey or any of your animals, nor the alien within your gates, so that your manservant and maidservant may rest, as you do.    Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and that the Lord your God brought you out of there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm.  Therefore the Lord your God has commanded you to observe the Sabbath day.”

When Joseph of Arimathea took Jesus down from the cross, he put Him in a tomb.  How did Joseph find a tomb so quickly?  The tomb belonged to Joseph.  Matthew 27:59-60, “Joseph took the body, wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, and placed it in his own new tomb that he had cut out of the rock.  He rolled a big stone in front of the entrance to the tomb and went away.”

Joseph of Arimathea was a believer and waited for the kingdom of God.  Luke 23:50-51, “Now there was a man named Joseph, a member of the Council, a good and upright man, who had not consented to their decision and action.  He came from the Judean town of Arimathea and he was waiting for the kingdom of God.”

Joseph was a disciple of Jesus, but in secret.  John 19:38, “Later, Joseph of Arimathea asked Pilate for the body of Jesus.  Now Joseph was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly because he feared the Jews.  With Pilate’s permission, he came and took the body away.”

That was on Friday, before 6:00pm. On the next day the Pharisees and the chief priests went to Pilate and asked for the tomb to be guarded.  Why?  They thought the disciples were going to take the body of Jesus.  Matthew 27:62-64, “The next day, the one after Preparation Day, the chief priests and the Pharisees went to Pilate.  ‘Sir,’ they said, ‘we remember that while He was still alive that deceiver said, ‘After three days I will rise again.’  So give the order for the tomb to be made secure until the third day.  Otherwise, His disciples may come and steal the body and tell the people that he has been raised from the dead.  This last deception will be worse than the first.”

Adam invited our boys to go swimming in his above ground pool today.  They went by dorms for 45 minutes each.  The boys had fun.  We are appreciative of Adam and Vilma for allowing our boys to come for a swim.  By the way, as I walked over for lunch duty, I looked down into the transition area and saw the pool.  I don’t know what the water looked like before our boys went swimming…but let’s just say, it wasn’t clear now.

The older children were invited to watch another movie tonight…“Ben Hur.”

Principles of success #13

The dollar dropped again down to 7.24 quetzales.

Yusbella is still in the hospital.

We are ordering the roof for Los Cometas as well as the floor tile on Monday. Materials for the dialysis will also be ordered then. So we continue to slowly make headway.

We have no clothes dryers working on the girl’s side. Lee has offered to let them use his dryer but we desperately need to get a washer and two dryers. Please pray for this need. At $5000 each it requires a miracle. Thank you.

Gladys is my personal assistant

The twenty-fifth principle of success is to not be hindered by fear. II Timothy 1:7 “For God has not given us a spirit of fear but of love, power and sound mind.” We should never be slaves of fear. When I fall into fear I immediately fall into a depression. They are connected and one feeds the other. If you are a child of God you should be clear headed and sound minded and be able to recognize and deal with all confusions. Leaders will always be captured by either a sound mind or fear.

26) It is God who gives us power to gain wealth. Deuteronomy 8:18 “ is He who gives power to get wealth”. There is no doubt but that financing anything takes money and this I where organizations blow up. The easiest way to lose sight of the goals of your ministry is to focus on the funding. Take it from an expert! It takes money to operate and the devil can get you off the ministry part of your organization and onto the cash flow.

He gives abundantly to His children and children should never doubt the intentions of their heavenly Father.
