A good name

Two buses were racing & jockeying for position when they crashed not far from Casa. It took dozens of ambulances and over an hour to carry the injured to the hospitals. As of now no one has died.

The funeral for Jose’ was sad as they always are when children are the victims.

Sebastian & Dorcas went for a class on tax changes in Guatemala.

There was a program at the school to celebrate “The Land of the Corn”. The program was in Catchiquil which is a Mayan dialect.

The Land of the Corn

Proverbs 22:1 “A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favor rather than silver and gold.” This verse tells me that I have a choice. I can be a person who is respected and appreciated by others of I can become rich with devious and unfair ways.

There are people who are willing to do anything in order to accumulate money. They will be dishonest, unfair and greedy in order to be wealthy. A stingy and dishonest person will be known as such. He cannot escape that fact. He will yield to the temptation to take advantage of others.

But the first part of the verse says a good name is better. If I am dishonest can people trust me? If I am rude can people appreciate me? If I am unkind can people love me?

It is all about the name! If I put my hand in a fire it will get burned and it most assuredly will be painful. That is a natural law. Well, there are spiritual laws and Proverbs 22:1 tells us to go after a good name rather than wealth at any price. It is not the silver and gold that is the problem. It is how we accumulate it.
