Yesterday we celebrated a birthday. He turned 10 years old and is in the second grade. You may remember us talking about a boy who liked to help us by sweeping and cleaning, but he does it so we can “see” him. I have rewarded him in the past but reward or not, he still likes to help. In fact, he stayed with me while we weeded at the flagpole in the schoolyard. He’s a good boy.
Well, we had a hot dog eating party but like the others, he could only eat four hot dogs. He searched the whole birthday box for a gift and he decided upon a water bottle. Candy made enough cupcakes so he could bring one to his sister in Doncellas. We want the boys to celebrate with their family. Another wonderful Vencedor birthday. Thank you Lord!
This morning, after breakfast, the boys sat down in the sala and I asked, “If someone asked you as they pointed to someone, ‘Who is that leader?’ What would you say? The boys were silent, which is a shock because I didn’t ask them a calculus question… but maybe they thought it was a trick question. One boy said, “He’s a friend,” while another said, “He’s a leader.” I asked the same question about another leader and one boy said, “He’s a singer,” while another said, “He’s a leader.” I asked the boys, “What if the first leader told you that he is the next Messi or the other said he is the next Marcos Witt? What would you think about that? Would you say that they are crazy?” The looks of the boys said it all. Not happening.
“Jesus asked His disciples a similar question. A question that we need to ask each other, our friends, family, co-workers, spouse and children. Matthew 16:15-16, “’But what about you?’ He asked. ‘Who do you say I am?’ Simon Peter answered, ‘You are the Christ, the son of the living God.’” If we were asked the same question, what would we say? Our answer will reveal our relationship with Him.
“Do you believe that Jesus is the Son of the living God? Or do you believe that He was just a good man or great teacher? Do you believe that He can heal and forgive our sins? Or do you believe that He is crazy? If we do not believe in His deity then there is no faith in Jesus. If we do not have faith in Jesus, then we cannot believe in the gospel. If we do not believe in the gospel, then we do not believe Jesus can heal and forgive and there is no resurrection. If there is no resurrection, then there is no eternal life. If there is no eternal life, then there is no reason for this ministry.
“Paul wrote, ‘And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith.’ Casa was built on the rock of salvation and the promise of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It was not built on the promise of a good life now.
“What was the promise? John 11:25, ‘Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?”’
“You may ask, ‘What is wrong with taking care of the poor and children who are abused?’ Nothing is wrong with that. You can be clothed, fed, educated and be successful yet what have you gained? Jesus said, ‘What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?
“Your health, education and life are important to us but your soul is more important. We desire for you to have a relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To know Him. And what is this? Eternal Life.”
