The Deity of Jesus

This morning we talked about the Deity of Jesus. I asked the boys, “When you hear the word, Deity, what does it mean?  It means, ‘God.’  When a person believes in the Deity of Jesus, they are saying, I believe that Jesus Christ is God.  There are three qualities of God that I want to talk to you about.  God is omnipresent, omnipotent and omniscient.

“Jesus is omnipresent.  He is everywhere.  Only God has the ability to be everywhere.  Our little ones’ favorite verse is Joshua 1:9, ‘Have I not commanded you?  Be strong and courageous.  Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.’  Jesus said, ‘For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them.’  Jesus also promised us that He would be with us as we go and make disciples of all nations.  ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.  And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.’  Where can we go that God will not be there?  Psalm 139:7-12, ‘Where can I go from your Spirit?  Where can I flee from your presence?  If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.  If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.  If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,” even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.’

“Jesus is omnipotent.  He can do anything.  He is all-powerful.  He forgives sin, He can heal, He can raise the dead and He can give life… Eternal life.  Through Him all things were made.  John 1:1-5, ‘In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  He was with God in the beginning.  Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made.  In him was life, and that life was the light of men.  The light shines in the darkness but the darkness has not understood it.’  Jesus told the teachers of the law, ‘Which is easier: to say, ”Your sins are forgiven,” or to say, “Get up and walk?”  But so that you may know that the son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins…’ then He said to the paralytic, “Get up, take your mat and go home.”  And the man got up and went home.’  We have life through Jesus.  Jesus said, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes Him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.’

“Jesus is omniscient.  He knows everything.  God knows everything about us.  Psalm 139:1-4, ‘O Lord, you have searched me and you know me.  You know when I sit ad when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.  You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.  Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O Lord.’  ‘Nathanael asked Jesus, “How do you know me?”  Jesus answered, “I saw you  while you were still under the fig tree before Philip called you.”  Then Nathanael declared, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel.”’  Jesus predicted His death.  Matthew 16:21, ‘From that time on Jesus began to explain to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and that He must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.’”

Philippians 4:13, “I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.” We can do everything because our God is omnipresent, omnipotent and omniscient.  He is our “Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”  He is God.

Next week Guatemala will celebrate their independence, so the teachers are making preparations and practicing traditional dances with the children.  Our boys look forward to this every year…food, poems, dancing and smiles all around.  We are blessed.  Thank You, Lord.

Mike and Dottie will be leaving tomorrow for the states.  Please keep them in your prayers for safe travel and open highways.  Please pray for God to strengthen them and allow them to rest. Chad and Abby and their family leave for the States on Wednesday. Please pray for safe travel for them, too.

Candy said the ladies Bible study group just finished the Beth Moore study, Breath, last night. Next week, she said they begin the Priscilla Shirer study, Gideon. Candy has listened to some snippets of the video, and she’s so excited to get started. She asked that you please pray for open hearts and minds that are focused on Jesus as the ladies begin this study.

All His,

Lee and Candy

love hopes

My last sermon before I go to the states was on self-worth. So many of our children have a struggle with self-esteem.

Dottie had to set her boys up to work in her gardens the four weekends we are gone. Michael, Susie & Christopher, our grandchildren, came to visit. They have grown so much.

Some of the transition team spent the weekend at the beach. That is the type of togetherness they will need as we move forward.

Love always hopes. I Corinthians 13:7. Briscoe tells the story of a person who visited the Matterhorn in Switzerland only to be there on a day that fog covered the mountain. There was no way they could see what they wanted to see. But as the man walked away he did not say, “There is no Matterhorn”.

The mountain was there, they just could not see. Faith is based on hope. There are many things we are looking at that if seeing in the natural was all we had we would be sadly disappointed. Faith is the substance of things hoped for.

Hope sees through the fog to the reality beyond that fog. It is optimistic and never doubts that what God has promised is coming. We may not see it but that does not remove the fact that what we desire is truly there. It is simply not seen in the natural eyes yet.

We have to keep going. Failure to believe is not an option. We continue to walk towards the prize. I have never seen Jesus but He is near me at al times and in fact lives within my heart. I have never seen heaven but I know it will be my home for eternity.
