We read Acts 10:1-8 and talked about Cornelius. I asked, “Who is Cornelius? If someone asked who you are, I would like to be described like Cornelius. Devout and God-fearing. What is a God-fearing person?
“Stands in the gap for the Lord. They put God first. Ezekiel 22:30, ‘I looked for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found none.’
“Humility. God cannot use someone who is full of pride. Who thinks more of themselves than the Lord. 2 Chronicles 7:14, ‘…if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.’
“Generous. Giving your time and resources to others. Matthew 25:40, ‘The King will reply, “I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.”’
“Man of prayer. Praying is the best thing that you can do for others. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, ‘Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.’
“Obedient. Do what God says and not just listen. James 1:22-24, ‘Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive ourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.’
“An angel of the Lord tells Cornelius to go to Joppa and get Peter. Next time, we will learn why.”
