A man in a church disliked the pastor. So every time he met someone fro the church he would say “Things aren’t right in the church are they?” This is all he would say. Eventually the minister had to resign.

What is gossip? Idle talk, groundless rumors, mischievous tattling are some of the definitions. Gossip is giving information to someone who I not part of the problem nor are they part of the solution.

The Living Bible says in Proverbs 18:8 & in 26:22 “What dainty morsels rumors are. They are eaten with great relish” and “Gossip is a dainty morsel eaten with great relish”. So twice Solomon uses almost the same wording to tell us that people enjoy gossip. They eat it up!

Proverbs 16:28 tells us gossip hurts relationships.

Proverbs 20:19 tells us gossip under mines reliability.

Proverbs 25:23 tells us gossiping about people will make them angry.

Proverbs 26:20 tells us that gossiping causes arguments.

A good rule is that whatever strengthens relationships is what we share. If it hurts someone we keep our mouths closed.
