After breakfast we continued our discussion. I said, “Jesus asked His disciples, ‘Who do you say I am?’ It is important to talk to you about who Jesus is because our dorm changes all the time. Some of you may come from a home where your parents did not have a relationship with the Lord, so you do not know who Jesus is. Some may even grow up here at Casa but do not have a relationship with the Lord. If you do not know who Jesus is, how can you have faith in Him? How can you believe in Him?
“You can listen to Mike preach or groups can come and tell you that Jesus is the Son of God. He became man. He died on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins, was buried, resurrected from the dead and will return. Yet, if we do not believe or know Him, we truly cannot understand nor answer the same question Jesus asked His disciples.
“A relationship is knowing the other person. If we know God and His Son Jesus then we have eternal life.” John 17:3, “Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.”
“So, who is Jesus? John 1:1-2, ‘In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.’ Now the first question is, ‘How can Jesus be with God and BE God?’ That is the Trinity. I heard an example on how to explain the Trinity to little ones. Of course, it is not a perfect explanation, but it is a beginning. Think of the Trinity as water. Water can be in three forms: ice, liquid and gas. All are the same but in different forms. We’ll study more on the Trinity later.
“Jesus is God. Moses asked God what to tell the Israelites when they want to know the name of God, God said, ‘I AM WHO I AM… I AM has sent me to you.’ Exodus 3:14. Jesus told the Jews, ‘I tell you the truth… before Abraham was born, I AM.’ What did the Jews want to do? They picked up stones to stone Him. Why? Because that is God’s name and they considered it blasphemy.
“When Jesus was born, He was given the name, Immanuel. What is the meaning of Immanuel? God with us.
“When Jesus forgave the sins of a paralytic, the teachers of the law said, ‘Why does this fellow talk like that? He’s blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?’ Jesus said to them, ‘Which is easier: to say to the paralytic, “Your sins are forgiven,” or to say, “Get up, take your mat and walk?” But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins…’ The paralytic was healed.
“When the Jews asked Jesus if He was the Christ, Jesus told them, ‘I and the Father are one.’ What did the Jews do? They picked up stones to stone Him. They wanted the truth yet when they were told the truth, they did not believe.
“Who do you say Jesus is?”
This week is the Academic Olympics in the local schools. We have many representatives from Casa. The younger ones participated Monday, Elementary yesterday and Junior High and High School today. Billy said the results would be announced sometime next week. We had several representatives from Vencedores.
Please continue praying for those flooded in the states hit by Harvey. From the pictures and videos we’ve seen, there has been major damage. Our hearts go out to those fighting the waters and seeking refuge.
