Recently, we shared with you that a friend of ours had cancer in a lymph node in his neck and that another test was to be done on the base of his tongue.  That, too, proved to be cancerous.  Our friend had a PET scan on Friday to see if there was cancer anywhere else in his body.  When we read the email, Candy and I rejoiced that there is no other cancer in our friend’s body.  Praise ONLY to God!!!  Please continue to pray for the treatment yet to come.  God IS awesome!

We do have other friends going through cancer treatments, and we ask you to hold them up in prayer.  The disease is awful, and the treatment is horrendous.  However, God is the Doctor Who is always on call.  Praise Him!

Our devotional yeseterday was based on a quote by Ann Voskamp, “If you are waiting on God, do what waiters do: Serve.”  I said, “As you all know, patience isn’t one of my strengths.  God?  He is patient.”  2 Peter 3:8-9, “But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.  The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness.  He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”

“While we are here on earth, we will be waiting on His promises.  Jesus promised that He would return.”  John 14: 1-3, “Do not let your hearts be troubled.  Trust in God; trust also in Me.  In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you.  I am going there to prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with Me that you also may be where I am.”

“There are some that doubt His coming, and they mock Him and those who believe in Jesus.”  2 Peter 3:3-4, “First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires.  They will say, ‘Where is this “coming” He promised?’  Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.”

“Those that believe, they will be waiting for the Lord.”  Psalm 130:5-6, “I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in His word I put my hope.  My soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning.”

“So, while we wait, we need to serve.  We don’t sit around; we serve.  Jesus didn’t sit around and wait for the people to come to Him; He served the people.”  Matthew 20:28, “…just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and give His life as a ransom for many.”

“All of us have been given a gift and we need to use it to serve others.”  1 Peter 4:10, “Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.”

“Jesus loved His disciples so much that He washed their feet.  He loves all of us so much He died for us.  What is our excuse not to serve?  While we are waiting, we need to continually do good and serve.”  Galatians 6:9-10, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.  Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.”

We ask that you join us in praying for full time dorm parents for our boys. As we mentioned in an earlier journal entry, we feel called back to the United States. We pray that God will send godly parents for our boys…ones to love and care for them as their own.

Every other Saturday, our older leaders (18 and older), are able to leave and have free time outside of Casa.  They enjoy the time outside and always come back smiling.  Maybe they just enjoy being way from us…;-)

Some members of the government agencies came and played with Casa’s soccer team yesterday.  There was just a slight disadvantage to the visiting team, but in reality, it accomplished its purpose.  To show the love of the Lord, serving together and to just have fun.  A few of our boys and leaders went to watch while I stayed back with those who didn’t want to go.

In the afternoon yesterday, I took the boys to the field and they played soccer and flew kites.  While I was watching the boys, Billy came by with Sofia and we talked.  He is such an inspiration to me.  Not many people know this, but he was actually a leader in our dorm for a short time.  We laughed about that as we reminisced.  God places people in our lives for a purpose, and I am grateful to the Lord for using Billy to encourage me and pray with me when times get tough.  After Billy left, I stood there and suddenly the boys on the soccer field started running toward me.  If you have ever seen the “Running of the Bulls,” it was like that.  I was confused until I got pelted by rain.  The boys weren’t storm chasers, the storm was doing the “chasing” and it chased us back to the dorm.

All His,

Lee and Candy
