Roxie after surgery

This is Roxie before and after surgery.

Roxie’s surgery went very well. After x-rays the physicians decided both feet needed surgery so she will not be able to walk for 2 weeks. Her mother, Tanya, will come then for the 3rd week and then take her back to the states.

The workers as well as some of the teen boys took the roof off of 4 classrooms where the hospital will be.

Kevin & Candida begin their nursing internship 24 hours on and 24 hours off at a hospital in Guatemala City. I am so proud of them.

I do not know if you have read the great philosopher, Winnie the Pooh, but Winnie said “If you live to be 100, I want to live 100 minus 1 day, so I never have to live without you”.  To me that i a profound statement of love and friendship. As I continue to age I often think of friends from my past. Sadly I have seen too many of my early friends depart this world and there is an emptiness in losing friends.

CS Lewis said “Friendship is the greatest gift of worldly goods. Certainly to me it is the chief happiness of life”. When Pastor David left after being here for 17 years it truly was as though part of me was ripped out and a hole made that could not be filled. True friends are not easily replaced.

Proverbs 12:26 says that “The righteous should choose his friends carefully”. Jesus told us in John 15:17 “These things I command you that you love one another”. Christ makes it clear that God designed us to be intimate with God but also intimate with others”.

Stone wrote “Be careful of the environment you choose for it will shape you                                                                                                    Be careful of the friends you choose for you will become like them”.

Friends make the places and events of our lives meaningful.
