Forgiveness and Mercy #1
Ed left for California early this morning.
Dottie and I took off for a few days of R&R.
To me mercy and forgiveness are so very close. They are nearly identical twins. The greatest gift of God to us is forgiveness of our sins and this is due to His incredible mercy. Without mercy and forgiveness we cannot escape hell.
The last few days we talked about the Boomerang Beatitude which is “He who shows mercy will receive mercy”. In Luke 6:37 “Forgive and you will be forgiven”. We must forgive! Unless we can learn how to let go of the offenses others have done to us we will limit the amount of forgiveness and mercy God will give to us.
I am afraid that I am as gulity of what I am about to write. We live in a world where what we say is not always what we mean. A man’s word is not taken serious. I have heard people tell their kids “If you do that again I will….but then the child does it and no consequences are given. I have done that here at Casa more times than I want to count.
But when Jesus said “But if you do not forgive neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses” He meant it. There are literally millions of people who do not forgive. I have a family member who has refused to forgive their parent who has been DEAD for years.
The way I forgive is the way I will be forgiven. That is a deep thought for us to consider!
